Breast Lift Austin
About Breast Lifts
Often, pregnancy or nursing stretches breast skin, causing breasts to sag or become pendulous. Excessive weight gain or loss or the natural aging process can also take its toll. But there is no reason for a woman to hide behind a droopy bust line. Breast lift, or mastopexy, can take years off a woman’s body by creating a firmer, and tighter bust line and more voluminous breasts.

During breast lift surgery Dr. Snyder trims away excess tissue and skin, and remaining tissue and skin are tightened and lifted. In some cases, the areola is reduced in size, making it more proportionate to the reshaped breasts. Breast lift, which is often performed in conjunction with breast augmentation, is not permanent; gravity, age, and additional pregnancies can affect results over time, but effects are still very satisfying for the vast majority of patients.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BREAST LIFTS
What is Mastopexy (“breast lift”) surgery?
- The breast lift procedure is surgery to uplift and improve the shape of a breast that has lost its youthful shape and firmness due to pregnancy, breast-feeding, weight fluctuations, aging, and gravity.
How long is this surgery?
- Surgery times vary for each patient, though typically this procedure lasts approximately 2 hours. It is usually done as an outpatient procedure and patients are able to go home on the same day.
Where will my incisions be located?
- There is typically a circular incision around the areola, along with a vertical incision that spans from the bottom of the areola to the fold underneath the breast. The vertical incision and surrounding skin located underneath the breast will appear “bunched” after surgery but this will smooth out over time.
What dressings should I expect to have after surgery?
- The incisions will be covered with small tape-like dressings called steri-strips. These stay on the incisions for several days and eventually come off on their own. Over this, there may be small pieces of gauze and tape over the incisions which may be removed 1-2 days after surgery. The areas should remain covered if they continue to drain any fluid. You will be placed in a surgical bra or ace wrap after surgery.
What should I expect as far as recovery time?
- Patients are usually able to return to light activity/work after 1 week. Heavy lifting or strenuous activity/exercise should be avoided for at least 3-4 weeks after surgery.
How long should I expect to have swelling?
- Although most swelling resolves over the first few weeks after surgery, swelling may persist anywhere from 1-3 months. Bruising from the procedure should be expected though it usually resolves within the first month of surgery. Wearing the compression garment as instructed plays a key role in reducing the amount of swelling postoperatively.
Will I need to have sutures (stitches) removed after surgery?
- There are typically no incisional sutures that need to be removed. All sutures used are dissolvable or underneath the skin.
When may I return to my regular exercise routine?
- Most patients are able to return to their pre-surgery exercise routine approximately 6 weeks after surgery. Patients may be able to return to a light, low impact exercise routine as soon as 4 weeks after surgery. it is important to discuss this with your doctor at your follow-up appointment.
What prescriptions will I need?
- After surgery, you will be given a prescription for pain medication and antibiotics. It is important to inform your doctor if you have any allergies or adverse reactions to certain medications.
